NextEngine 3D Scanner is a desktop 3D scanning device available for use in the Digital Media Fab Lab. The scanner utilizes a proprietary MultiStripe Laser triangulation system, eight solid state lasers with custom optics, two image sensors, and has an optically synchronous 7-color surface capture system. The NextEngine 3D Scanner is very precise and can capture up to 268K mesh points/in2 and 500DPI of texture data.
The scanner is a very powerful piece of hardware. There are video tutorials available on the computer that is attached to the unit in the Digital Media Fab Lab. Just open the Scan Studio software and go to the Help tab. Alternatively, Nasa has a .pdf user guide available online. Please ignore any references that are obviously specific to their lab setting.
